Also known as the cost of forgetfulness, carelessness, not planning ahead, etc, it’s quite possibly the most aggravating cost of all. JD of Get Rich Slowly touched on this subject recently as did the Frugal Duchess when she mentioned her desire to eliminate “careless costs.”
Earlier this month E got a parking ticket when he ran in the house to drop something off. Stupid cost? £40. A few weeks ago we went to the park without bringing allergy meds to combat our raging hay fever. Stupid cost? £6 for pills from the nearest pharmacy that would have cost half as much at Boots.
Today I made hopefully the last of three trips to the shop to buy buttons and thread to replace a button that had popped off my new cardi. Because the cardi was cheap-ish (New Look) it didn’t come with extra buttons. I couldn’t find anything remotely resembling my buttons so I bought all new ones on the first trip, but forgot thread. Next day, I bought thread. Today I went to sew them on but the thread was nowhere to be found. So I went back again and rebought the thread. Stupid cost? £2 and my time. Not a massive expense, but annoying regardless.
I do hope to eliminate the stupid, careless costs in our lives, but knowing I’m not alone certainly helps!
